Cyberpunk 2077 meets Payday in stunning new shooter

Upcoming co-op heist shooter Den of Wolves is perfect for fans of Cyberpunk 2077 and Payday.

If you’re a fan of both Cyberpunk 2077 and Payday, you may want to keep an eye on the upcoming Den of Wolves - a brand new co-op heist first-person shooter.

Developed by 10 Chambers, Den of Wolves remains without a release window but we do know that the game is set to land in early access on PC first and foremost, with a console launch following some time after. The synopsis reads, “In this techno-thriller, you and your friends operate as criminals for hire in the conflicts between rival corporations in Midway City. Gather your crew, design the plan, gear up and execute the heist.” The reason that Den of Wolves has such major Payday vibes is because it actually comes from the creator of Payday: The Heist and Payday 2, as well as GTFO.

Take a look at Den of Wolves’ new trailer below.

Unveiled during last week’s The Game Awards, we got our first look at Den of Wolves in action. It’s predominantly a cinematic trailer, but it certainly sets the tone of the game’s Cyberpunk 2077-esque world. We do see what looks like one tiny flash of gameplay, showing - perhaps rather unsurprisingly - guns blazing mid combat.

In an interview with PC Gamer, narrative director Simon Viklund also cited The Matrix, Ghost in the Shell and Blade Runner as inspirations. Set in Midway City, players will operate in teams of four as criminals-for-hire. They’ll “take advantage of the growing need for ‘unauthorized errands’ created by rival business entities in this corporate haven”. Devs teased that Den of Wolves should be fun regardless of whether you have just 20 minutes or two hours free to play.

There will be a variety of mission types including espionage, sabotage, theft, and assassinations - and your crew will be able to select the weapons, gadgets, and intel they need before executing such tasks. Some missions will require a stealth-based approach, while others will be more aggressive. All in all, it’s shaping up nicely and we can’t wait to hear more.
