Cyberpunk 2077 fans have slammed a new rival release, and we can see why.
At almost five years old, Cyberpunk 2077 has been one of the most popular games of this generation. And taking that popularity into account, we’re bound to start seeing more games inspired by CD Projekt Red’s RPG cropping up over the next few years.
One upcoming game in particular looks like it’s taking not only inspiration from Cyberpunk 2077, but may also be literally copying assets from the game. And fans aren’t happy about it.
Elon Musk has made some bold claims that his xAI game development studio will release a “great” game powered by Grok AI within the next year.

“The XAI game studio will release a great AI-generated game before the end of next year,” the billionaire posted on X (formerly Twitter), quoting a post showing a clip of a very Battlefield-looking game that was seemingly made in Grok.
It’s a very ambitious prediction, especially considering generative AI technology is simply not able to render full video games in as much detail or coherence as it would if it were made by humans.

There’s also the obvious ethical concerns surrounding AI. Generative AI technology companies have been accused of using copyrighted works to train its AI models without the permission of the rights holder, and some users can even reproduce these copyrighted works using these AI tools.
In addition to that, there’s also the fact that the data centres used to power these tools use up a lot of water and electricity, also raising environmental concerns.

And even putting these concerns aside, the results just aren’t that great. The clips we’ve seen of AI-powered games produced by Grok so far all seem to show the same type of gameplay of someone running forward with a gun, with not much else occurring. Such deep and interesting gameplay.
"What if you played Cyberpunk 2077 but it was soulless dogs*** slop AI,” wrote video game content creator LegacyKillaHD on X, quoting a post showing a clip of a Cyberpunk 2077-esque game that was completely rendered in Grok. Some of the assets that appear in this clip appear to be taken from the CD Projekt Red game, too.
“He’s still bitter they wouldn’t give him a cameo,” wrote another user, referring to the fact that Musk allegedly demanded a role in Cyberpunk 2077 which never came to pass.
We’ll see if xAI’s first AI-powered video game ever actually manages to see a release.
