Controversial Xbox game pulled from users' libraries with no refunds

An Xbox game which many were using to earn easy achievement points has been pulled from the Xbox store.

Bad news, achievement hunters. Microsoft has shut down one of the best (but most controversial) sources of Xbox achievement points, leaving gamers frustrated.

There’s no doubt that unlocking achievements is satisfying, and seeing a game’s completion steadily build up to 100% truly never gets old. For Xbox users though, it’s on another level - earning achievements also racks up Gamerscore points for extra bragging rights, and some people purposely seek out games that are easy to earn achievements in to boost their points a bit.

Check out this super satisfying Xbox cleaning video below.

One Step After Fall is a single-player, first-person walking simulator which many have been using for this very purpose. As ComicBook reports, up until now, the different language versions of the game allowed players to ‘stack’ achievements. Basically, you could complete the English, Spanish and German versions of the game and earn achievements and Gamerscore for every single one of them, despite them being the same title. This has been very effective - ComicBook writes that One Step After Fall provides 1,000G in as little as 15 minutes.

Now though, it’s been reported that those aforementioned German and Spanish versions of the title have been removed from both the Xbox Store and users’ libraries. What’s more, apparently, the regular refund process doesn’t work (although it’s claimed that going directly through Xbox Support will sort this out).

“I [...] asked for a refund and they DECLINED!! THEY DELIST IT AND DELETE IT FROM MY LIBRARY!! XBOX STEAL [sic] MY MONEY!!!! I AM SO PISSED OFF!!! I ALSO BUYED GERMANY [sic] AND THEY ALSO DECLINED!!!! [YOU’RE] KIDDING ME!?” @kyublueofficial tweeted.

One Step After Fall’s publisher, The Bergson's Games Studios, has also confirmed that “to avoid future inconveniences” (translated by Google), it’s cancelling the Spanish PC port of the game. It apologised to anyone affected by the delisting of the Xbox versions, and stated that Microsoft's explanation of the game's sudden delisting "was not clear".
