Control Sequel Announced by Remedy, Trailer Confirms 2026 Launch

The Oldest House calls us back

Tonight at The Game Awards, Remedy Entertainment announced Control: Resonant, the next game in the Control series.

Expected to release in 2026, Control: Resonant follows the events of the first game but you play as Dylan Faden this time, rather than his sister Jesse.

Looking a bit more dishevelled this time after years of confinement inside the Oldest House, Dylan is sent onto the streets of Manhattan to combat a mysterious supernatural threat that has overwhelmed the city streets.

Dylan’s supernatural powers were explored in the first Control, and Control: Resonant will see him harnessing these powers to unlock their full potential.

It’s while doing this that Dylan will also seek out Jesse, hoping to reunite with her as he struggles to contain the dangers that have spilled beyond the confines of the Oldest House.

The trailer includes a note that “The sibling has gone rogue”, which indicates Jesse may have deserted her role as FBC Director for unknown reasons, which will presumably become clear when we play the game.

Control: Resonant Can Be Played Without Context Of The First Game

Remedy likes to think of Control: Resonant as a standalone companion to 2019’s Control rather than a straight-up sequel. Virtually everything that separates the two titles are flipped on their head.

For example, Control: Resonant takes place on the streets of New York City, swapping out the shifting, brutalist architecture of the Oldest House for the dense urban landscape of Manhattan. Where the first game saw Jesse searching for her brother, the sequel involves Dylan searching for her.

Even the style of gameplay has changed for this title, moving from ranged combat to close quarters. Dylan doesn’t have access to Jesse’s Service Weapon, but instead possesses the Aberrant, a shape-shifting melee weapon which allows him to deal serious damage up close. In that sense, the combat looks rather different from the first game, but still feels like it retains that classic Remedy fluidity.

Despite it being a sequel, Remedy has also stated that the game can be played without the context of the first.

“You don’t have to know the first game to jump into the sequel, we’ve made this one easy to pick up and hard to put down,” says creative director Mikael Kasurinen.

“We’re pushing the scale beyond anything we’ve done before, elevating combat, exploration, and storytelling into a bigger, more memorable experience. It’s ambitious, a little wild, and we can’t wait for players to get lost in it.”

Control: Resonant is being published by Remedy itself rather than Epic Games, which it worked with to publish Alan Wake II back in 2023. With this being the case, PC gamers can expect it to hit Steam, rather than being an Epic Games Store exclusive. Annapurna Pictures is also co-financing and co-producing the game.

Control: Resonant is scheduled for release in 2026, and will be coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
