It should come as no surprise that this year will bring yet another Call of Duty entry, after all, since its inception in 2003 we’ve had a new game in the series almost every year.

Even when we weren't allegedly supposed to get a new game, one still arrives. In 2023, it was reported that instead of a full release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022) was to get a Modern Warfare III expansion which instead launched as its own standalone game.

Check out our interview with the Modern Warfare III devs below!

In our review of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (campaign), I said: “Call of Duty deserved much better than this churned-out disappointment. If you’re desperate for a bit of CoD this year, then you’ve probably already picked this game up. Otherwise, give this game a miss or at least hold out for patches to fix some issues.”

This year it is rumoured that the next Call of Duty release will be a new entry in the Black Ops series, which is yet to be officially confirmed by Microsoft or Activision. However, despite this year's release not being officially confirmed yet, speculation is already running wild as to what will arrive in 2026 and 2027.

According to Twitter user zvis_ceral (in collaboration with Vondyispog), “Project Devilwood” is in development with Infinity Ward and it’s claimed this will be a sequel to 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts to be released in 2026. What’s more, “Project Anvil” is also reportedly in development by Sledgehammer Games and will bring a new Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare title the following year.

Of course, we should take all unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, it wouldn't be all that surprising if we were to get sequels to Call of Duty: Ghosts and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare one day.

As for the immediate future, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
