The end of the year will wrap up with two of our favourite FPS franchises going head-to-head with the launch of both Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

The titans of FPS gaming will be seeing off the year in style with fans of the genre having to spread their time between the latest Battlefield entry as well as the next instalment in the Call of Duty franchise.

That is because, after two successful beta periods, Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 are expected to launch across all platforms on 10 October and 14 November respectively.

You would think that that is a long enough date between the two launch days to allow players to spend enough time with each title.

However, it seems as though Activision has other plans following a recent announcement.

It has been revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be opening up its servers for a week-long free trial for the 2024 release.

Starting tomorrow, 9 October, the free-trial will allow players to access a large portion of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 including all multiplayer maps and modes, and even its current spooky event and all six Zombies maps as well as the campaign.

Activision is no stranger to regularly opening up access to its titles but never before have they included so much content in a free trial.

Plus, it is quite a coincidence that this is happening just a day before Battlefield 6 is expected to open its doors.

It is worth giving the company the benefit of the doubt considering that this week also celebrates BO6’s final season drops but it will still be a blow for Electronic Arts and Battlefield 6.

Nevertheless, Call of Duty fans will be happy, especially if they are yet to dive into 2024’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

That is because this free trial will include ten of the game’s multiplayer modes spread across 40 maps.

Not only that, but to celebrate the Halloween season, those checking out the free trial will be able to dive into the current The Haunting event which includes all new maps and modes.

If you want to check out something a bit more substantial, you can check out Black Ops 6’s campaign which may not be the best in the franchise, but definitely still holds its own.

So if you want to dive into Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 at absolutely no cost ahead of the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 next month, the free trial runs from Thursday, October 9 and concludes on Thursday, October 16 so don’t miss out.
