Assassin's Creed publisher announces major free download coming your way soon

Assassin's Creed publisher Ubisoft has outlined some huge free downloads coming your way in the next few weeks, because who needs to spend summer outdoors? Not us.

Ubisoft might be spending the majority of Summer Game Fest showing off Assassin's Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws (both of which look incredible, by the way), but let's not sleep on some of the publisher's other recent bangers.

During Ubisoft's special summer showcase, we got confirmation of two massive new free downloads for two different games.

The first bit of news is that season one of free-to-play shooter XDefiant is arriving 2 July as a huge free download. You can expect a brand-new faction to play as, three new maps, and a new mode: capture the flag. You also have 48 hours to get your mitts on a limited-time weapon skin, so don't miss out.

Fans have been desperate for news on the first proper season of XDefiant for a while now, so it's good to finally have something to look forward to.

You'll also be glad to know that you can download a free update for the excellent Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown right this second. This huge new update contains a series of new platforming and combat challenges, new outfits and gear, and sets the stage for a larger story DLC that's scheduled to release in September.

If you haven't played The Lost Crown or XDefiant, you really need to sort it out ASAP. Two very different games, but both prove Ubisoft can still bring the thunder when it needs to.
