Assassin's Creed fans beg Netflix to adapt Ezio's story faithfully

A live-action Assassin's Creed series is in development at Netflix, and fans are begging for Ezio's story to be faithfully adapted for it.

Earlier this year, HBO’s The Last of Us proved once and for all that if handled faithfully, video game adaptations can be genuinely fantastic.

We’ve certainly had a lot more mediocre and downright bad films and shows based on games in the past - you need only look at last year’s releases Uncharted and Halo to prove that. However, The Last of Us was phenomenal - and was only the start of this year's excellent video game adaptations. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which released earlier this month, has also been going down seriously well with fans.

Take a look at our interview with The Super Mario Bros. Movie star Anya Taylor-Joy below.

Anyway, in case you’d forgotten, back in 2020 it was announced that a live-action Assassin’s Creed series is in development at Netflix. “We’re excited to partner with Ubisoft and bring to life the rich, multilayered storytelling that Assassin's Creed is beloved for,” Peter Friedlander, VP and head of original series at Netflix said at the time. “From its breathtaking historical worlds and massive global appeal as one of the best selling video game franchises of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting epic and thrilling entertainment based on this distinct IP and provide a deeper dive for fans and our members around the world to enjoy.”

Details are still very thin on the ground (other than the fact that showrunner Jeb Stuart recently stepped down), plus we don’t know which protagonist the series will follow, yet fans on Reddit are already pleading for Netflix to adapt Ezio Auditore da Firenze’s story faithfully if he’s involved.

“Imagine if Netflix/Ubisoft adapt Ezio’s story in a The Last of Us-style commitment to the source material,” Electrical_Boss_7482 wrote. “I think overall Ezio has [some] of the best character development in all of media.” Others feel the same: “I would love to see it. I think about it every damn day,” Fraughty12 commented. “It would be a nice idea but it would have to be close to the source material, it could turn out well,” added SPlRlT-.

At this point, who knows when we’ll get more information about the series? We can only hope that it’ll be worth the wait when it eventually drops.
