Assassin's Creed is ditching the past for the future in upcoming game

Assassin's Creed is ditching the past for the future in upcoming game Codename Hexe, according to a datamine.

We’re so used to jumping into the past in Assassin’s Creed but if a recent datamine is to be believed, we could be jumping into the future in an upcoming instalment.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage may not be perfect, but it’s a welcomed return to form for Ubisoft. It’s nice to see the franchise embrace its stealth-based roots. In our review, GAMINGbible’s Sam wrote, “I sincerely hope Ubisoft treat Mirage as the new baseline going forward, whilst still evolving the series further. The main problem is still the parkour, as it’s just too simplistic, and often feels like the game is playing itself when all you’re doing is holding a button down, which is a shame because Baghdad was a lovely playground to explore.” Speaking of Baghdad, the game’s iteration of the city is filled with secrets, including one buried so deeply that it had to be uncovered by dataminers.

Take a look at Assassin’s Creed Mirage in action below.

As reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, some cut dialogue appears to have been datamined, linking Mirage to the upcoming Codename Hexe. It was found by YouTuber Sliderv2 who said the audio was taken from an unused post-credits scene. The scene reportedly featured an antenna in the middle of the desert which triggered a conversation between two Animus employees.

They refer to the 21st century as “ancient history”, further touching on a “shift” that took place. Typically, we see AC games flash to our present day, but it looks as if what we know as present day is about to become ancient history. Take a look below.

Ubisoft is yet to fully reveal Codename Hexe which could explain why this scene was cut. Perhaps they want to keep an air of mystery for a little while longer. Do take all theories with a pinch of salt, but I think it would be refreshing for the series to explore a new direction like this.
