Assassin's Creed Black Flag next-gen update teaser leaves fans divided

GTA 6 fans would've eaten a tease like this up

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is often considered to be one of the franchise’s very best entries, so it’s no real surprise that it’s seemingly been handpicked to receive the remake treatment.

While the project hasn’t officially been confirmed by Ubisoft, this rumour has been circulating for quite some time now.

It was last year that Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson first broke the news, later revealing that the game was scheduled to launch in November of this year.

However, that may no longer be the case following the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows - a game that was pushed from November 2024 to February 2025.

That could then affect the planned launch of the rumoured Black Flag remake, nudging it back in 2026 … or perhaps not.

One Ubisoft developer appears to have dropped an interesting tease.

ICYMI: Take a look at Assassin’s Creed Shadows in action below.

As spotted by Reddit user Avenger2017, Ubisoft lead animator Dan G - who goes by the name DannyGee01 on Twitter - may be hinting at the imminence of the remake.

“Since I was young, I was a big Assassin’s Creed player and my favourite one is Black Flag (Imagine Black Flag on next-gen),” he wrote, with an accompanying wink emoji.

The tweet has since been deleted so while I’d urge you to take this tease with a pinch of salt, it does appear as if Dan has let the cat out of the bag.

It’s usually at this point that I’d expect to tell you that the fanbase is hyped by this news, but it’s quite a different story.

It seems the patience of Assassin’s Creed fans is wearing thin.

“This means absolutely f**k all,” wrote TheAdmirationTourny.

I’m used to seeing fanbases put stock in meaningless fluff, but I actually think there might be some truth in Dan’s tweet myself.

Whatever the case, the fanbase will get their Assassin’s Creed fix next month when Shadows finally launches on 14 February. What a way to spend Valentine’s Day.
