ARC Raiders Devs Issue Free Money, Saying Sorry

It’s the next big hit!

ARC Raiders has proved to be so popular during its opening launch week that its developer has given away free money for overloading its servers.

It feels like every few months or so, a new game comes along that takes the video game community by storm, whether it’s a AAA big hitter like Monster Hunter Wilds or an indie darling like Schedule 1.

The most recent game that has taken the community by storm is the new third-person extraction multiplayer shooter ARC Raiders, developed and published by the indie team over at Embark Studios.

“In ARC Raiders, gameplay flows between the surface ruled by lethal machines and the vibrant underground society of Speranza. Craft, repair, and upgrade your gear in the safety of your own workshop, before venturing topside to scavenge the remnants of a devastated but beautiful world,” reads the synopsis of the game.

“Play solo or in parties up to three, navigating the constant threat of ARC's machines and the unpredictable choices of fellow survivors. In the end, only you decide what kind of Raider you are - and how far you’ll go to prevail.”

Being a multiplayer shooter, the online servers for ARC Raiders must run as smoothly as possible. However, due to the immense popularity of the game during its opening week, it was too much for its crossplay servers to bear.

As you can imagine, if you were one of those players who were looking forward to playing ARC Raiders but struggled to access a game or even a stable one at that, it probably proved to be quite a frustrating experience indeed.

According to SteamDB, a very helpful website that gathers all sorts of concurrent player data, ARC Raiders has so far had an all-time concurrent player peak of 354,836 and at the time of writing this article, has 137,433 players right now.

Unfortunately, there’s no such accurate data for ARC Raiders players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Yet, if a multiplatform game is popular on Steam, there’s a good chance that it will be a reflection of the console counterpart.

That being said, as brought to our attention by PC Gamer, Embark Studios has gifted players 500 Raider Tokens (its in-game currency) for a “wobble on Sunday” regarding a server overload. The free tokens are gifted to all players across all platforms, which is nice.

“Thank you very much, you’re great. I like the way you deal with issues,” replied wernairfight94.

“We appreciate you working through it and getting it corrected. We also appreciate the tokens, and even with the server issues, you still broke a concurrent player level on Steam,” said GreatStoryCorey.

“Love this,” declared Pijinnn.

ARC Raiders is out now. Fingers crossed, there’ll be no further server wobbles.
