Multiple PlayStation 5 users are reporting a curious new bug that causes games and apps to get stuck in some form of "queued for Download" purgatory. At present it seems the only fix for this issue is to perform a complete factory reset of the console.

IGN is reporting that numerous members of its staff, as well as various users, have suffered from this particular bug over the last day. The error appears to occur when a product is set to download, and go one of two ways: The game or app will end up listed as Queued for Download indefinitely, or report a download error. In either instance you'll be prompted to check the Downloads menu, which doesn't show anything.




The unfortunate result of this bug, IGN notes, is that your game will end up in a kind of limbo from which there's no escape. If the bug hits and your game/app won't download, there's no way to cancel it and redownload from your library, effectively meaning whatever you were trying to claim is lost to the ether.

IGN writes that the PS5 library registers you as owning the game/app, but the PS5 store will insist that you don't and ask you to buy it again. This is far from idea, obviously. So far it seems the issue has been linked primarily to Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, although Godfall, Demon's Souls, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and the Disney+ streaming app have also encountered the error.

Call Of Duty publisher Activision currently recommends a factor reset of the console for those who have been getting in touch about Call Of Duty - something that has worked for many of the user who reported the problem. I can't imagine anyone particularly relishes the thought of having to completely wipe their new console and download everything again, but it doesn't look there's another solution at the time of writing.

Sony has yet to comment on the issue at time of writing. Here's hoping this is something the company can get fixed in time for the console's November 19th launch here in the UK, and that there aren't too many new PS5 owners currently affected.
