Fallout: Nevada Shines Light on Bethesda Wait, Amazing Post-Apocalypse Adventure

We're heading back to 2015 for this one

If you’re sick of the wait for Fallout 5, or Fallout: New Vegas Remastered, or Fallout 3 Remastered, or whatever rumoured Fallout game we’ve heard about over the past year, then perhaps it’s time you finally explore Fallout: Nevada.

Look, none of us know what’s going on with Fallout right now. To be honest, I’m not even sure Bethesda knows what’s going on with Fallout right now either.

Maybe some remasters are in development, maybe they aren’t. Maybe they’ve secretly been working on Fallout 5 this whole time, or maybe they’re still years away from releasing The Elder Scrolls VI and haven’t even started on a new Fallout game.

We’ve all heard the rumours at this point, but sadly we still don’t have any concrete info. For all we know, the next Fallout game could still be years away at this point.

Thankfully, modders exist. A bunch of fan-made Fallout games have released over the past couple of years, but one of the most lauded total conversion mods in the franchise’s history is well over a decade old at this point.

In fact, I can’t actually say for sure when Fallout: Nevada released. I think it was sometime around 2015, but considering the mod’s origins and the fact that an English translation for it took some time to develop, I’d wager that it was pre-2015.

Fallout: Nevada is a total conversion mod for Fallout 2, and, according to those who have played it, is actually bigger and longer than the original game.

It also, bafflingly, seems to be the work of only four people, led by a man by the name of Aleksandr "Black Designer" Poshelyuzhin.

So, the real question is, how do you actually play it? Well, for a start, you’ll need a copy of Fallout 2.

From there, I highly suggest checking out this thread over on the No Mutants Allowed forum for all the details on getting it up and running (as well as a lengthy explanation of its plot).

Just keep in mind that the original version of Fallout: Nevada is in Russian, so you’ll want to download the English translation version detailed in the forum post.

If you also want to download mods for the mod (ridiculous sentence, I know), you may run into a few issues trying to find some English-translated versions of those, as some of the best ones are only available in Russian.

Hopefully that will tide you over for a few weeks, until the next Fallout game releases in… some point in the not-too-distant future.
