I wouldn’t call myself a fan of extraction shooters, and honestly Exoborne hasn’t made me one, but it has at least got me interested in giving the genre another go.
What Exoborne does differently to other shooters in the genre is it gives players maps that can change at a moment’s notice, through the weather system.
For example, a thick fog can blanket the map, reducing visibility and making it harder to traverse, as well as harder to see rival players as you race towards your objective.

Another example are tornadoes, which can actually be used to your advantage as using your glider at the right time can actually see you swept up by the wind currents, getting you from A to B faster provided you don’t go hurtling into the tornado itself. It’s a double-edged sword though as tornados can pass through fire and suck that up too, making them pure hazards that you’ll want to avoid at all costs.
The different classes all seemed like good fun too, each with its own unique abilities that’ll cater to your individual playstyle.
For example the class I went with had a cloaking ability that made me undetectable to enemies, perfect for getting the drop on an unsuspecting player while they’re looting with the back turned.
Speaking of other players, I honestly loved how chaotic the game got towards the end, as our objective-hunting quickly turned into an all-out warzone with several rival teams all converging on our location, two of us even missed our extraction and had to wait for another one because the chaos kept us from getting to the transport in time.

Again, I wouldn’t call myself a fan of extraction-shooters, but Exoborne at least has my attention, and I’m thinking I’ll definitely try it out again at some point in the future.
