PowerA Enhanced Wired Controller Review: A Delightful Alternative Gamepad

Feels like I’m holding nothing at all

It’s immediately clear when holding the PowerA Enhanced Wired Controller for Xbox Series X|S that it’s a quality gamepad. Despite feeling impossibly lightweight, it’s sturdy and ergonomically pleasing, putting less strain on wrists than official Xbox options might.

Take a look at the new PowerA Enhanced Wired Controller for Xbox Series X|S here:

Holding the Purple Camo option, I can’t help but draw comparisons to my other PowerA controllers - One for Xbox which is essentially the same of this but with in-built lighting, and one Spectra Nintendo Switch Wired Controller (which I wrote about here). Despite the Switch pad being slightly smaller, the new Enhanced Xbox model is the lightest of the three, which is impressive.

“Enough about how light it is”, I hear you cry. As I mentioned, it’s a comfy controller to hold. Whether playing Forza Horizon 5, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege or Yakuza: Like A Dragon, I had a wonderful time using my new Purple Camo friend.

Now, a wired gamepad isn’t always ideal for people who sit further from the screen, of course. Luckily, the PowerA Enhanced Wired Controller comes with a cable spanning 10ft/3m in length, which is more than satisfactory for most setups, especially if you’re using it with a PC or laptop instead.

Trying it out with the GeoBook 140X gaming laptop, I was comfortably playing on a 14.1 inch screen while sitting in an armchair. Then, while further back from the TV, playing my Series X, I was still enjoying the same levels of support from the gamepad.

As a wired option, the PowerA Enhanced Wired Controller for Xbox Series X|S is a comfortable alternative to the first party, wireless models. With its long cable, pleasing grip and astonishingly light weight, you’re in the right place if you don’t want wireless play.
