The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is a fine Zelda game. Not the best, but still a good time.

Perhaps that’s a little harsh. Zelda: The Wind Waker is easily in the Top 10 best Zelda games of all time so “not the best” is just personal preference talking. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess are better in my humble opinion.

Wind Waker has a charm that’s hard to ignore though so no wonder fans were thrilled to see it finally playable on the Nintendo Switch 2, albeit the less impressive Nintendo GameCube version.

Forget the Nintendo Switch 2 though as PC players will soon be able to play it on their rigs without the need for Nintendo Switch Online.

Zelda: The Wind Waker Sets Sail Onto PC

PC users will undoubtedly be familiar with some of the jaw-dropping classic game ports we’ve seen over the last couple of months.

We’ve had Animal Crossing released on PlayStation hardware and various Nintendo IPs like The Legend of Zelda finding new homes on PC.

The latest Zelda coming to PC is of course Wind Waker and it’s looking gorgeous so far.

Video Game Esoterica once again covered the decompilation in a YouTube video and it runs like a dream.

The project isn’t finished at the time of writing but it’s just around the halfway point, which means it won’t be long until Zelda fans on PC have another game to add to their growing collection.

For those confused you can of course play Wind Waker on your PC already through emulation but decompilations are an entirely different thing.

Decompilation is the process of reverse-engineering the code of a game to allow for a native port to be created from said code. Emulators don't require the code, they just simulate the hardware required to play the game so in Wind Waker's case, that'd be Dolphin as Dolphin can simulate the Nintendo GameCube.

Decompilations also open the door to exciting new modding possibilities, so if you’re disappointed Nintendo is remaking Ocarina of Time rather than Wind Waker just sit tight, someone’s bound to take the project on themselves.

Nintendo Games Are Playable On More Platforms Than You’d Think Right Now

Aside from what’s offered through Nintendo Switch Online your Nintendo Switch can actually run thousands of games with a bit of elbow grease.

The Dolphin emulator has had great success on Nintendo’s own console so if there are any particular Nintendo GameCube or Nintendo Wii games you’re eager to play you can probably play them now, but you of course need to be aware that simply downloading a ROM to play with from the internet is piracy.

In a crazier turn of events though the PlayStation Vita has become quite the hot ticket item when it comes to emulation.

Gamers have gotten several games running on the device that probably shouldn’t be there, like the aforementioned Animal Crossing port and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

Then there’s the copious amount of decompilations in the works, meaning you’re not short of games to play if you’re tech-savvy enough to access them.
