The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is finally playable on PlayStation hardware decades after its initial release.
Bethesda’s pride and joy is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and while we love it too it simply wouldn’t exist without its predecessors.
All the buzz around The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was great to see and fans understandably want more remasters from Bethesda, namely Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
Morrowind deserves a chance as well though and nothing proves that more than the excitement of seeing it running on PlayStation hardware.
Morrowind launched exclusively for Xbox and PC back in 2002 and never saw a port to PlayStation consoles.

The wide release of Skyrim and Oblivion Remastered now makes Morrowind one of the only Elder Scrolls RPGs to not be playable by PlayStation 5 owners, and while this new port doesn’t fix that it’s still incredibly impressive.
Tech-savvy PC users have somehow managed to get Morrowind running on a PlayStation Vita of all things, and it’s playable for free right now.
It was shared by Zealous Chuck on X and it apparently runs really well. Performance is stable and you can even use the PlayStation Vita’s touchscreen as part of the game’s controls. Mods are also supported.
The only downside is the load times are pretty long but that can’t really be helped, it is a PlayStation Vita after all.
Nevertheless it’s an impressive technical achievement and joins a number of other beloved games getting PlayStation ports they probably shouldn’t. With a bit of elbow-grease you could probably get Morrowind running on the Nintendo Switch too given some of the recent emulation advancements sweeping the console.
Like we said, Morrowind isn’t the only game getting unexpected ports to PlayStation hardware.
In fact there’s a bit of a craze going on at the minute that’s seen an abundance of games emulated on the PlayStation Vita specifically.
The OG Animal Crossing for the Nintendo GameCube was a big one for a while but the Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask one was just as impressive.
More ports are definitely on the way and if you want to try them for yourself we’d recommend picking up a PlayStation Vita now if you don’t own one already. Chances are all of this excitement will see second-hand prices soar and they’ve never been cheap to begin with.
The Morrowind port especially tells us two things. The first is there are still plenty of gamers out there who want more Morrowind, so what better way to give them what they want than an official port for the PlayStation 5 or better yet a remaster like the one Oblivion got.
The second is the PlayStation Vita is a severely underrated piece of kit and it seems like PlayStation has realised that, as the PlayStation 6 is rumoured to be released alongside a new handheld.
