Look, I have a confession to make, dear reader. I am not a zombie survival game person. I like a bit of escapism - to switch off from the real world and get lost in a nice fantasy one where there’s not a whole lot to worry about. Zombies generally are something to worry about, so I can’t say I’ve ever been overly drawn to the idea. That, and I don’t like blood.
Regardless, if I was going to have a change of heart and throw myself into a zombie game, I daresay it’d be for The Day Before - an open-world MMO set in an incredibly dangerous, post-pandemic America, overflowing with flesh-hungry infected, and all the survivors straight up killing each other for food and weapons. After waking up alone with no memory of the world around you, you set out on a journey for answers, and more importantly, survival.
Before checking out the latest trailer, get yourself up to speed with The Day Before's announcement trailer, below.
This latest trailer is focussed mainly on the game’s visuals rather than the gameplay, but excitingly, has highlighted just how much of a difference ray tracing will improve the experience. It offers some handy comparison shots, and while the game is gorgeous with or without, it’s undeniable that having ray tracing on is going to be the superior way to play.
The game is being developed by Fntastic, whose previous work includes the mystical, short story-based adventure Radiant One, and The Wild Eight, a survival action-adventure set in the frozen Alaskan wilderness - the latter of those obviously being significantly more similar to the upcoming zombie game than the other.
The Day Before is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on 21 June, so there’s not too long to wait now. Also, is it just me, or does zombie game terminology just seem to hit a bit different now? A “post-pandemic world” sounds far too much like something you’d just hear on the news these days. Regardless, it looks great, so get your calendars marked with that release date - assuming you’re not like me, anyway. I’ll stick to the games where people aren’t after my brain, thanks.
