After ten years, multiple failed attempts, and seven directors, the Uncharted movie will finally arrive in cinemas early next year. This week, we got our first trailer for the video game adaptation starring Spider-Man’s Tom Holland as Nathan Drake. The reaction has been… mixed, to say the least.
It’s not that the Uncharted trailer is outright bad. It looks like a lot of fun! There are lots of exotic locations, quips, and even one iconic set-piece involving a cargo plane that’s been ripped straight from Uncharted 3. On the surface, it looks exactly how an Uncharted movie should look.
Take a look at the trailer below!
Unfortunately, a lot of fans just aren’t buying Tom Holland as Nathan Drake. Yes, this is supposed to be a younger version of the character, but right now? It seems less like a movie about a roguish treasure hunter and more like one in which Peter Parker has somehow taken the place of the series’ lead character.

It certainly doesn’t help that at one point in the movie he literally does a Spidey hero pose, as you can see below.
“I like the casting,” said one Twitter user of Holland, before adding that it’s just “10 to 15 years too early” for him.
Naturally, others are still feeling a little robbed that Nathan Fillion wasn’t cast as Drake. “If I’d not played the games and saw him as Nate, I’d be sold,” one fan said after seeing the trailer. “But as I have, I can’t help but wonder what a Nathan Fillion Drake would’ve been like.”
Of course not everyone is dead against Holland as Drake. Here at GAMINGbible we’re huge fans of the actor, and are more than willing to see how his performance holds up when the movie launches next year. There are also plenty of fans out there who believe he does look the part and might do something new with the role.
We’ll find out for sure when Uncharted releases February 18, 2022.
