Twitter Creator Responds To Elon Musk's $44 Billion Buyout

If you thought acquisitions were the hottest trend of the moment in the gaming world, we’ve now entered the era of social media acquisitions - much to everyone’s dismay. In case you missed it, Elon Musk has successfully purchased Twitter after his offer of $44 billion was accepted.

It’s been a decisive move to say the least. Musk originally set out to become a majority shareholder but later rejected the offer in favour of a full buyout. To everyone’s disbelief, the Tesla founder does have a dedicated legion of fans, but the overwhelming majority of Twitter users are against the takeover.

Since the buyout, Twitter’s creator Jack Dorsey has spoken out, offering up his thoughts on the situation and unlike the majority of people on your Twitter timeline, he’s actually excited about it.

Dorsey began a Twitter thread with a link to the Radiohead song ‘Everything In Its Right Place.’ He then went on to say, “I love Twitter. Twitter is the closest thing we have to a global consciousness. The idea and service is all that matters to me, and I will do whatever it takes to protect both.”

He went on, “I don’t believe anyone should own or run Twitter. It wants to be a public good at a protocol level, not a company. Solving for the problem of it being a company however, Elon is the singular solution I trust. I trust his mission to extend the light of consciousness. Elon’s goal of creating a platform that is “maximally trusted and broadly inclusive” is the right one.”

Jack summed up his thoughts with, “This is the right path...I believe it with all my heart. I’m so happy Twitter will continue to serve the public conversation. Around the world, and into the stars.”

There’s really no doubting Dorsey’s stance on the situation. Needless to say, most people’s thoughts probably wouldn’t lead them to Elon Musk when they think “the light of consciousness,” but here we are. Only time will tell what the future has in store for Twitter.
