The Witcher fans call for show's cancellation following 'shockingly bad' season 3

Stop, stop, it's already dead.

The Witcher’s third season came to a close last week, and fans are seriously unhappy - for a number of reasons.

A lot of the upset centres around Geralt himself, or rather, the guy playing him. Season three was Henry Cavill’s final outing as the series’ main protagonist - as I’m sure you’re painfully aware, in season four, he’ll be replaced by Liam Hemsworth. This caused an enormous amount of uproar when it was announced, and no one has really calmed down since. However, the show’s transition between the two actors will apparently be “very lore accurate” and “very, very close to the meta ideas which are deeply embedded in the books”, so that’s something.

Take a look at the trailer for The Witcher’s third season below.

As for the rest of the complaints surrounding season three, well, even without getting into spoiler territory, the episodes just weren’t very good, were they? On Rotten Tomatoes, the third season currently has an audience rating of just 22%, which speaks volumes (especially compared to season one’s 89% audience rating). As UNILAD reports, fans have been flooding Twitter, begging Netflix to put the show out of its misery right now.

“Man[,] the third season of The Witcher was just a disaster from one end to another. Netflix should probably cancel it,” one Twitter user wrote. “Gods. Please just cancel The Witcher. It’s making me not want to play the game,” another tweeted. “Just cancel the show already it’s SHOCKINGLY bad,” another added.

Despite the controversy, Hemsworth is apparently doing his very best to prepare himself to fill Cavill’s boots. Previously, it was revealed that he’d been “devouring the books”, which does actually bode well if it means that he can draw from the source material in a more natural way. Whether that’ll translate to our screens is another matter, though.

We don’t currently know when The Witcher’s fourth season will release - we’ll have to watch this space.
