The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey has revealed they deleted their social media ahead of the second season's debut to avoid any of the backlash.

The show's second season is based on The Last of Us Part 2, which was released on PS4 back in 2020.

At the time, a massive hate campaign was formed as a result of certain characters and plot elements being featured in the game.

The Last of Us Season 2 is currently airing on HBO.

While we won't spoil anything about what happens, a lot of backlash was particularly aimed at lead co-writer Neil Druckmann, as well as actor Laura Bailey for her portrayal of Abby Anderson.

It even led to a point where death threats were being sent to Bailey and her young son.

Once the show adaptation began airing on HBO in 2023, Ramsey also became a target of this hate movement.

Some viewers felt the need to hate on the 21-year-old actor because they did not fit their unrealistic expectations, with a lot of criticism aimed at their physical appearance (remember, Ellie is 14 in The Last of Us, you weirdos).

A few months ago, Ramsey deleted their social media profiles ahead of the Season 2 launch because of this backlash.

"I always knew that I’d [deactivate] it one day and never even really wanted to have social media in the first place," Ramsey told The Hollywood Reporter.

"It wasn’t like this big dramatic thing, but there was an element of it that was thinking about the show coming out for season two. If I just avoid Twitter and Reddit, which now I’m doing, then everything’s totally fine."

Honestly, fair play to them. I think I'm too obsessed with checking Reddit every day that I can't bring myself to delete it.

Ramsey states that filming Season 2 was "a very difficult year in many, many ways." They went through an intensive physical training schedule, citing boxing, jiu-jitsu, and weight training as some of the exercises they did to prepare for the role.

They would then alternate between shooting and stunt training once filming began, allowing Ramsey's portrayal of Ellie to be much tougher in the second season compared to the first.

The Last of Us is currently airing each Sunday on HBO. The next episode is due to air on 27th April.
