Terrifier 4 will apparently give us a closer look at who, or what, Art The Clown truly is, finally exploring the killer’s origins.
The director, and screenwriter, of Terrifier 4 Damien Leone confirmed the film will explore Art The Clown’s backstory in an interview with Collider.
Leone had confirmed prior to the interview that Art’s origins will be explored in an Instagram post, saying: "I might as well take advantage of this day and give all of the Terrifier fans a little present in return - The script for Terrifier 4 is underway and it is shaping up to be the most epic, horrifying, thrilling, emotional, and satisfying conclusion to the Terrifier saga.”
Leone continued: I’ve personally never been so excited to see one of my own scripts translate to the screen like this one. P.S. I will finally reveal Art’s origin in this entry."

Now don’t get too excited yet as sometimes it’s the mystery that makes a character truly special, and when you take a deep dive into one’s backstory you might just come back up disappointed.
Fortunately Leone is more than aware of this, as he said: "I think a lot of people don’t realize the reason he works so well is because of the mystique. If you pull the curtain back too far, and you lose that mystique, it’s over. You’re not supposed to see the wizard behind the curtain. It’s almost always a disappointment."
While Art’s origins haven’t been explored in the previous films there have been a few clues as to who or what he is.
His resilience to damage and death is definitely supernatural, and in the last film he straight-up resurrects so he’s obviously some sort of demon or devil.

Fortunately we’ve got a decent wait ahead before we find out for sure, as the fourth entry in the Terrifier saga is dropping in cinemas sometime in 2026.
