Talk To Me becomes 2023's highest rated horror movie

Talk To Me becomes 2023's highest rated horror movie, after landing a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you’re on the lookout for something to enjoy at the cinema this weekend, you may want to check out Talk To Me - although it is a horror, so I’m not sure just how much of an enjoyable experience it’ll be.

We’re one week on from the historic Barbenheimer weekend, which saw Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer go head-to-head at the box office. Barbie won the battle, but both films drew in incredible numbers - making it the fourth most profitable box-office weekend in history. While I’m imagining there are plenty of people left still planning to watch both or either of those films this weekend, you may be on the lookout for something new if you’re all Barbenheimered out. Well, Talk To Me is officially out today and it’s already 2023’s highest-rated horror.

Take a look at Talk To Me in action below.

Directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, Talk To Me stars Sophie Wilde, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Dhanji, and Miranda Otto. It centres around a group of friends who discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand. They become ‘hooked on the new thrill’ but then one of them takes it a step too far, accidentally opening the door to the spirit world. Yikes.

As reported by our friends at LADbible, Talk To Me has an incredible critics score of 95% over on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the highest-rated horror of 2023. The Times’ Kevin Maher wrote, “The real stars of the movie, however, are the Philippou brothers, who demonstrate a level of control and cine-literacy (nods to Hitchcock and Friedkin abound) that was hardly evident from their chaotic YouTube work,” while The Telegraph’s Tim Robey added, “The film grabs your attention with verve, but also has a vision: it’s not mortal danger it finds freaky, but what’s waiting on the other side.”

Chicago Reader’s Noah Berlatasky said, “Talk To Me lures you in with the jump scares and with the chance to hang out with people you like - only to find that what you’ve really come for is to feel misery whispering in your ear, close enough to touch.” Chilling.

Talk To Me is in cinemas as of today.
