After nearly a decade Strangers Things has concluded, though it’s left us with more questions than when we started.
It was an explosive finale and unfortunately one that rubbed many viewers the wrong way. In fact Season 5 on the whole has been slated by fans for inconsistent writing, lesser performances and general disdain.
While I wouldn’t call myself a fan of the Netflix show I’ll at least throw my two cents in as to why the final season has been perceived this way. Stranger Things was a success because it catered to a younger audience when it first started, but nine years later those original viewers have grown up, as have the actors playing the characters, but the overall tone and vibe seemingly hasn't, which seemingly led to a lacklustre ending.
Stranger Things as we know it has ended, but the Netflix franchise will live on through spin-offs, one of which connects to that mysterious rock in a briefcase from Season 5.

Viewers were equally confused as to what this rock was supposed to be connecting to, and by the time the credits rolled on the final episode there was seemingly no answer, but the Duffer Brothers have confirmed what it’s leading up to.

In an interview with Variety the rock in a briefcase was brought up, with Matt Duffer taking the opportunity to straight-up say it’s being saved for the upcoming spin-off.
Duffer said: “Spinoffy, yeah. You pinned us down. So annoying.
"I do want to explain, just because people’s expectations go in certain directions: The spinoff is going to delve into that and explain that, and you’re going to understand it. But it’s a completely different mythology.
“So it’s not a deep exploration of the Mind Flayer or anything like that. It’s very fresh and very new, but yes, it will answer some of the loose threads that are remaining.”
The Stranger Things spin-off will apparently not feature the same cast, not that we’d expect it to, and as the Duffer Brothers teased will take the series in a completely different direction. The Upside Down won’t make an appearance, and we’ll be getting something completely new, which is what we need after Season 5 I think.
If you haven’t watched it yet, the Stranger Things finale is available now on Netflix, but I’d suggest getting plenty of drinks and/or snacks prepared before you watch it, as it borders on the two-hour mark.
