Stranger Things cut a massive Demogorgon sequence from the final episode of the series, which could have added more juice to a so-called lacking segment.
Entertainment is in the eye of the beholder, as they say. What we might consider to be the best thing ever could be another person's worst nightmare. Which is quite fitting, because in its final episode, the characters of Netflix’s Stranger Things quite literally stepped into a nightmare world known as “The Abyss”.
Some of the best TV series of all time have ended in the worst way. For example, Game of Thrones was fantastic from start to finish, well, almost. Game of Thrones had seven great seasons and one very rushed final eighth season, which left fans feeling very frustrated, to put it mildly.
A series that ended fantastically, in my opinion, is Breaking Bad. I won't spoil anything here because it's one of the greatest TV journeys you can embark on if you've still not watched it (where have you been?), but Breaking Bad is one of the very few series that left me feeling satisfied with its conclusion. And the ending made sense for some of its leading characters.
Stranger Things spoilers ahead
That being said, Stranger Things was a mixed bag for me. I loved seasons one to four, but its fifth and final season missed the mark in some parts. There were at least a couple of moments that lacked major urgency, considering that people's lives were in immediate danger.

I also felt that the final battle with Vecna and the Mind Flayer was rushed, and probably could have been done with an extra five or ten minutes.
I understand why those battles were cut short, because it wanted to spend more time wrapping up the main cast's stories, and that was lovely. However, we spent years building up to this moment, and while the Mind Flayer looked like an epic endgame boss in a big-budget video game, it could have cooked just a bit more in the oven.
Well, the final battle was intended to be a bit longer, but a scene that seemed to be another nod to the Alien movies was cut before it even reached the recording stage.
As brought to our attention by the Twitter account ‘Stranger Things Spoilers’ (via TheWrap), the Duffer Brothers had written a three-hour version of the final episode, which would have made it roughly 50 minutes longer.
This version of the movie would have included a massive field of Demogorgon eggs in The Abyss, but sadly, due to “demo fatigue”, that scene was chopped from production.
Recently, there was a lot of speculation regarding a mystery episode dubbed “Conformity Gate” dropping, but those rumours were swiftly debunked.
However, these recent years regarding the cut scene make me believe that there may have been some truth behind the speculation after all.
Would this scene have made that final battle more epic, or would it have drawn out the episode too much? We can only speculate. The entire Stranger Things series is available to stream right now on Netflix.
You might be pleased to know that today, the documentary film One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things is out now on Netflix.
