Star Wars fans are seemingly losing it over a tease for what could have been in The Acolyte season two.

The Acolyte is a polarising series, to say the least. It takes place towards the end of the High Republic era, about 1000 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

The Acolyte had some promise before its launch on Disney Plus, but then it did launch, and it went a bit tits up, and was abruptly cancelled after just one season, despite some intriguing teases in the concluding episodes.

I love Star Wars, but The Acolyte wasn't for me. Uninteresting stories and unlikable characters are never going to be a winning formula. But for those who enjoyed its only season, they were at least disappointed not to get more.

Just a heads up, I will be going into spoiler territory for The Acolyte.

As shared by Reddit user Camil_2077, in the official ‘The Acolyte Visual Guide’, it teases the relationship between Mae, Qimir and Darth Plagueis.

“Mae met Qimir and his master in 134 BBY, two years before the series. This shows us that Plagueis was actively involved in Osha's training,” they wrote.

“This is important in the context of his appearance in the final episode, as some fans suggested that Plagueis' discovery of Qimir training Osha was the basis for his eventual termination of the apprenticeship in the now-cancelled season two.”

It’s worth keeping in mind that, despite being an official release, the “lore” in Star Wars’ visual guides isn't always canon, but it at least confirms that Darth Plaguesis was likely to play a big role in season two.

“We need season two even more now. What I wouldn't give for it, or for season one to have been longer,” replied Jusup.

“Plagueis isn’t referenced on these pages — the 'Master' in question is ‘the Stranger,” said nymrod.

“Wait - reading this - isn’t the secretive master just Qimir?” asked igorek_brrro. “She didn’t know it at the time, but she knew the Stranger as Qimir’s master… when it was him the whole time.”

“Damn, we aren’t that many but for us fans it’s such a big loss. I hope the haters are happy,” exclaimed KyloRenT10.

I must admit, if there was one moment in The Acolyte that had me intrigued, it was the tease of a live-action Darth Plaguesis.

If there ever was going to be a second season, there’s at least plenty of room for improvement, and it couldn't get any worse, right?

You can watch the entire Star Wars saga right now on Disney Plus.
