If I were to say that a plot hole has been patched in the Star Wars timeline, particularly one from 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, you might laugh and say ‘which one?’
This is due, in part, to the film’s plot being all over the place tonally, and generally missing the mark for countless Star Wars fans around the world.
We’re not talking about how somehow Palpatine returned, or the hasty pushing of Finn and Poe into the background of the film.
No, we’re looking at just how the First Order managed to gather together enough funds to create the Starkiller base which is kind of the Death Star, but not really because that’s too on the nose.

When asked this question on Reddit, the community were happy to jump in and explain just how Kylo Ren and his cohort gathered the funds.
A very helpful Redditor called Custodian_Nelfe explained, “In the novel Bloodline we learn that corrupt senators of the New Republic are funnelling funds through shadow/criminal organization to the First Order.”
Of course, the plot would be expanded outside the films (sarcasm intended), leaving viewers wondering just how they managed to build a planet destroying space station likely costing billions, if not trillions of credits.
Who knows how much space brickies and sparkies charge for their services, it can’t be cheap to wire up a base that can literally implode planets.

If you want a more in-depth explanation, you need to look to YouTube for that, or you could read the Star Wars: Bloodline novel for yourself to get more on the backstory here.
What was likely a throwaway thought for Disney and the creators of the sequel trilogy has become somewhat of a weird plot hole that could only be filled by outside material.
This has become a pattern over the years, with both books and comic books able to expand on points brought up in the trilogy.
Perhaps this was a small detail for the average viewer, but it’s still part of the world-building we are being asked to believe.

I do love this tongue in cheek reply from wiseguy3055, who said, “Somehow Palpatine got the funds,” riffing on the constantly appearing meme that accompanies any discussion of the third film.
So, there you have it. Corruption won, and billions of credits were given over to the space fascists to bully the galaxy once again.
