In an upcoming animated television series, Star Wars fans will finally get to see the events which take place after the final season of The Clone Wars.

Better yet is that the series is set to center around one iconic Star Wars figure.

Created by Dave Filoni, who is no stranger to the Star Wars universe, and set to air on Disney+ in 2026, Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord is a brand-new animated series which follows former Sith lord Maul during the reign of the Galactic Empire.

Welcome back Sam Witwer, who voiced Maul in The Clone Wars, viewers will see the Sith lord rebuild his criminal syndicate and even train a brand-new apprentice.

According to reports, the show will cover the timeline between Maul’s escape from the Tribunal in season seven of The Clone Wars and his appearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

This gives the creators a lot of time to play with and it seems as though we will finally see what Maul got up to during these many years.

Since Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord was first announced back in April 2025, updates have remained scarce.

Until now.

Posted on the Star Wars Holocron Twitter account, we can now see our first glimpse at an animated Maul ahead of the show’s release next year and it is safe to say that fans are excited.

“He looks glorious,” one user wrote.

Another user agreed, adding, “Man, I’m looking forward to how the animation will look. Seems like an upgrade over Bad Batch, and that show had many impressive looking shots.”

With the majority of fans happy with the way both Maul and the animation as a whole looks, it seems as though Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord is already shaping up to be an excellent edition to the Star Wars universe.
