Quite possibly the most iconic Star Wars actor has revealed that they don’t want to return to the franchise again, and the reasoning behind their decision does make a lot of sense.
In a recent interview with ComicBook's Chris Agar, Mark Hamill, who you might best know as Luke Skywalker, revealed that he doesn’t want to return to the Star Wars universe… because he believes it’s time to pass the torch on to the new generation of character in Disney’s Star Wars films.
“I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars ‘the most expensive low-budget movie ever made',” Hamill told ComicBook, “We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that.”

“But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters… And by the way, when I disappeared in [The Last Jedi], I left my robes behind. And there’s no way I’m gonna appear as a naked Force ghost.”
So, what do the folks over on the r/StarWars subreddit think of Hamill’s statement?
Well, they flat out don’t believe him.
“Mark Hamill has done this before. When Batman: Arkham City ended with the Joker dying, he said that was it for him ever playing the Joker again. So we got Batman Origins which did have a different Joker voice actor but then Mark Hamill returned as Joker in Batman Arkham Knight,” commented user Vader_Maybe_Later.

“He also said in the 90s that Luke Skywalker's story was over and that he would never be returning to the character.”
“I thought he also said that The Rise of Skywalker would be the last time. Then he did The Mandalorian, then he did the LEGO 'everything got mixed up' mini-series,” replied user notbobby125.
Honestly though, I believe Hamill is serious. Everything surrounding The Last Jedi just seemed like such a headache for him, and part of me thinks he’d be extra hesitant to return now that there’s no chance he’d appear alongside old friends like Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher.
Here’s hoping that the fan base is just as comfortable moving on as he is.
