Star Wars fans are full of praise for the recasting of a character - and let’s be honest, it’s not every day that a recast is better than the original.
Some not-so-great recasts that come to mind include Jonathan Groff as Agent Smith in Matrix Resurrections, replacing Hugo Weaving, or Stuart Townsend as Lestat, replacing Tom Cruise in the follow up to Interview with a Vampire, Queen of the Damned.

“Which character recast in Disney canon do you believe is a better casting/truer representation of the character?” asked Redditor Sea_Drop2528.

“For me, it has to be Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, a much better character,” they continued. “Blakiston’s portrayal I found rather wooden, whereas O’Reilly brings so much depth to it.”
Genevieve O’Reilly played Mon Mothma in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, A Star Wars Story: Rogue One, and more recently in the Disney Plus series, Andor. The character was previously played by the great Caroline Blakiston in the original Star Wars trilogy.
“To be fair, the OG Mon only had 20 seconds to deliver some lines that had to be cold enough to be sending the entire Rebel fleet on a mission to their probable doom,” replied Present-Example-5222.
That being said, fans agreed that Ewan McGregor played the best version of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

“There's an argument that Obi-Wan is better played by Ewan McGregor than Alec Guinness, even though McGregor is doing a slight impression of Guinness,” suggested Hampshire2.
“I was growing up when the prequels were coming out, and when I think of Obi-Wan, Ewan always comes to mind first. Two amazing performances from both actors, though,” agreed tarheel_204.
“Ewan is the only good part of Episode II - Attack of the Clones. Without his storyline, the middle of the film would just be Anakin and Padmé on Naboo, and there's only so much griping about sand I can handle,” exclaimed antipop2097.
You can watch the entire Star Wars saga right now on Disney Plus.
