When Star Wars: The Acolyte ended abruptly, cancelled for a number of baffling reasons, it wasn’t given the chance to play out the plot threads it had begun to sow.
Not only were we left with questions about the future of Qimir and Osha, but the presence of Darth Plagueis peeking out of his little cave now becomes a redundant plot point, leaving Star Wars fans none the wiser.
Thankfully, there are a few more details to be gleaned, though we have to look at Star Wars: The Acolyte Visual Guide, a new book that accompanies the series.

In the new book, there’s a deep dive into many of the storylines established in the show, as well as break downs of each character.
Perhaps most important to those who want all the history and lore, the book touches on Darth Plagueis.
The book details how the galaxy was once ruled by the Sith after the fall of the High Republic - this is something Palpatine references in the prequel trilogy when he said, “Once more the Sith shall rule the galaxy!”
This could have come about because of Darth Plagueis, who, though he’s looking out at Qimir from the cave, could have been walking his own path, and is perhaps watching over a rival rather than an apprentice.

The mention in the book officially makes his appearance canon to everything around it, which could mean Disney will pick up this thread in the future.
If Qimir isn’t the apprentice, then perhaps he is a threat to the plans of the Sith.
Until another creator comes along to pick up this plot and run with it, it will be left dangling and unused which is a shame because it would be great to see these early days of the Sith fully realised.
