Sonic 3 is heavily inspired by Sonic Adventure 2, producer teases

This is the best news I’ve heard all year

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (2024) will reportedly take a lot of inspiration from Sonic Adventure 2, which is the best news I’ve heard all year.

The live-action Sonic films started off as a crude joke that no one ever expected to land, but lo and behold they’ve quickly become major cinematic events, and are even expanding into TV series like Knuckles which drops later this week.

Check out the trailer for Knuckles below.

Back to Sonic The Hedgehog 3 though, there’s a lot for fans to look forward to like Jim Carrey’s return as Dr Eggman, Keanu Reeves being cast as Shadow, as well as the news the film will take inspiration from the best Sonic game ever made.

That’s right, the film’s producer, Toby Ascher, recently said the next film in the series will "take a lot" from Sonic Adventure 2.

Ascher went on to say, "It’s going to be this giant, fun, incredible movie that obviously takes a lot from Sonic Adventure 2 and some of the games that I know the core Sonic Team grew up loving."

It’s been speculated that the upcoming film will, in essence, be a full-on adaptation of the second Adventure game’s story, meaning it’s expected we’ll see other new characters in addition to Shadow pop-up, like Amy Rose and Rouge The Bat.

This does sound like the films will be skipping over Sonic Adventure 1 entirely though which is a bit of a shame, but there’s always the possibility of a fourth film doing a u-turn and revisiting those plot points later instead.

Nevertheless it’s an exciting time to be a Sonic fan, with the upcoming film releasing on 20 December later this year.

That being said, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 doesn’t open with Sonic escaping San Francisco on a make-shift snowboard, I'm walking out of the cinema.
