Spider-Man fans rejoice, Sony's awful spinoff movies are done

Victory is ours

Sony has struggled to set the right tone for its Marvel spinoffs.

Despite delivering entertaining Spider-Man movies, its other attempts have been nothing short of disasters.

And even though films like Madame Web are so bad they're good, it’s not enough to save Sony.

Fortunately, all of the marks it's missed have finally made enough of an impression that Sony is moving on to focus solely on Spider-Man 4.

We can all breathe a sigh of relief.

Seems rather apt that we share the Kraven the Hunter trailer, no?

In case you need a recap on all the spinoff movies that have failed miserably, prepare yourselves for our whistle stop tour.

There’s been Morbius, Madame Web, Kraven the Hunter (it’s already battling criticism and controversy before it’s been released), and, to some extent, the Venom trilogy.

As shared by ComicBook, as per The Wrap, an “industry insider” has cited the source of the problem as being “quality control”.

“The biggest issue with the Sony Spider-Man spinoffs seems to be the lack of quality control. The movies just aren’t good,” they purportedly said.

“Sometimes that lack of quality meets a movie no one asked for, which was the case with Madame Web and that is a no-win scenario. It may be time for Sony to start cultivating different IPs to launch new franchises.”

Another source, this time a “talent agent”, apparently said that Sony has worked through the projects it was interested in pursuing and it’s now all "about the next Spider-Man film”.

Before panic sets in, Sony appears to still be interested in expanding on the Spider-Verse, thank goodness.

We might have jumped the gun with our criticisms of Kraven the Hunter, but such an outcome feels highly unlikely.

Even if it should surprise us all, Sony has seemingly made the wise decision to focus its efforts on what matters most: Spidey.

For those who are curious about Sony’s upcoming Marvel based film, Kraven the Hunter is in cinemas from 13 December.
