There’s a lot of speculation about the next Avengers team as we build towards the upcoming films that will feature the team prominently.
We’ve literally got two Avengers films on the way from Marvel and, as things stand, we’re not really sure who could be called up to the team.
The Thunderbolts will be debuting this summer

One fan has an idea, and it’s a pretty good one, corroborated by the films coming this year - Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*.
The theory boils down to that asterisk in the title of Thunderbolts* and the tagline on a recent poster that mentions the Avengers not being available.
The Reddit user theories that the Thunderbolts will be the new Avengers, saving Sentry in their film, while Sam Wilson battles it out with the President as Red Hulk.
They go on to wonder if Doctor Doom shows up at the start of Avengers: DOOMSDAY and wipes out these new Avengers, pushing Sam into forming a more powerful team.
It’s not a bad idea, and one that could very well play out this way as events unfold throughout 2025.
Another fan goes one further saying, “Since we found out that Val was part of the group that bought Avengers Tower, then when we saw the clips of them in the "penthouse" of formerly Avengers Tower, I've had a feeling that we are in for an Avengers (2012) re-do.”
This goes on as another Redditor chimes in with, “Considering a fight scene takes place in the same area as the 2012 Chitauri Battle, it would be cool to have an Assemble scene but with the Thunderbolts instead.”
So, we could very well have our next Avengers team debuting this year, but don’t get your hopes up on them lasting long.
After all, it’s hard to believe that the ‘proper’ Avengers won’t be led by Captain America.
