MCU Kang recast rumours quietly confirmed by actor

This would have been a Major change

It seems like common knowledge that upon the firing of Jonathan Majors, from the role of Kang in the MCU, Marvel considered recasting him.

After all, Marvel put a lot of effort into the Kang storyline and had planned for him to be the big antagonist for the Avengers over a few films.

Colman Domingo appears in the latest Spider-Man show on Disney Plus

For a while, fans believed that Colman Domingo would step into the role, as he had been having conversations with the executives at Marvel Studios.

Now, it turns out, Domingo was seriously considered, and the actor confirmed all in a conversation with Josh Horowitz.

The actor spoke on the time when the rumours were swirling around social media, saying, “it was constantly in the press and on places like Twitter.”

Horowitz pressed the actor into saying more and Domingo said, “We did follow up with a sitdown meeting with the heads of Marvel. So I did do that.”

Of course, the actor is portraying Norman Osborne in the latest Spider-Man animated show, Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man.

However, the role of Osborne wasn’t the only one on the table.

He said they “openly about the landscape of Marvel or even the Kang rumours.”

It appears the role was passed over due to Domingo because he wanted to make a Marvel role his own.

“I feel like I want a role to be mine, whatever that role is, whatever I develop,” the actor commented.

With this in mind, he confirmed, “I feel like that was never a conversation from my point of view.”

It certainly would have been interesting to see the Kang storyline continue, and it shows Marvel was happy to continue on with the plot they’d work so hard on.

This feels like the best decision, though, as the studio can revisit Kang a long way down the road and let Colman Domingo carve out his own place in the MCU.
