MCU fans united over wild Professor X casting, and we see the vision

He's certainly a beloved actor

Avengers: Doomsday is heavily going to feature the X-Men; that’s not exactly a secret.

Plenty of X-Men feature in the film’s confirmed casting, including the likes of Channing Tatum’s Gambit, James Marsden’s Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, and Ian McKellen’s Magneto.

Then, there’s the set leaks. While I’m sure Marvel Studios would’ve preferred that the film’s sets stayed under wraps, drone footage has confirmed that Doomsday will seemingly see a major fight take place at X-Mansion involving Sentinels.

None of this is a total surprise, if you ask me.

It’s long been rumoured that Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will mark the transition from The Multiverse Saga to The Mutant Saga, although this hasn’t been confirmed by Marvel.

My personal theory is that these returning X-Men will be wiped out by Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom allowing for the MCU to cast its own preferences in the roles.

This is the MCU, after all. It loves nothing more than a multiversal variant.

I simply can’t picture a world where Kevin Feige won’t want to put his own stamp on this corner of the Marvel universe.

If the familiar Fox X-Men are wiped out, it begs the question: who might they be replaced with in the MCU?

Well, fans know exactly who they want to play Professor X, taking over from the incredible Patrick Stewart.

It’s a surprising pick but I can see the vision: Ewan McGregor.

The casting was first suggested by Reddit user Ok-Actuator-8095, but plenty of people agree.

“I absolutely love the idea of Ewan McGregor as Xavier,” replied one user.

“Yah I wanted to go with a younger X-Men team like X-Men: Evolution so some of the actors I chose are still a little unknown to most people. I grew up watching X-Men: Evolution so I always wanted to see a younger version of the team in the movies,” added the OP.

Honestly, I could see Feige thinking along the same lines. He’ll surely want his X-Men to feel different to the Fox cohort.

Making them younger could be one way to achieve that, although perhaps I’m giving him too much credit. Will he, and his collaborators at Marvel Studios, simply opt for a more obvious option?

McGregor is a beloved actor, and one that isn’t afraid to follow in the footsteps of the greats.

Assuming the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi after being handed the baton by Alec McGuinness would’ve been no small undertaking.

I suppose only time will tell what’s in store. Personally, I don’t think we’ll be seeing any ‘new’ X-Men until Secret Wars.
