MCU fans hyped as OG Avengers reunite with a new member

We didn't expect this

The Battle of New York is an iconic scene from Marvel films as it not only showed the Avengers coming together as a team, but it solidified the future of the MCU.

This scene has been reproduced a few times, even recently by Marvel Rivals, and now it’s getting another go around as part of season three of Marvel’s What If…?

Red Guardian will be appearing in Thunderbolts* next year

Revealed on Twitter, we’ve got a sneaky look at an upcoming scene that shows the OG MCU Avengers joined by an unlikely character at the battle.

During the camera swinging shot where each Avenger takes their place in a circle, brandishing weapons or flexing on the aliens, there stands Red Guardian.

Wedged between Black Widow and Captain America, Red Guardian is seen having a bit of a laugh at being included, which makes me wonder how he got there.

Fans are shocked and happy in equal measure to see the scene interrupted.

One Twitter user has an idea that could explain Red Guardian’s inclusion in the scene, saying, “If the super serum worked and was tested on Alexi instead of Bruce?”

While another MCU fan jokes, “Someone call the TVA, Red Guardian is distracting the Avengers iconic circle shot again.”

This is the final season of the Marvel show airing on Disney+ so we can expect some wilder than ever stories to emerge.

“Finally, an interesting episode,” says one user is response to the scene.

I’m intrigued by what else could happen in this episode, especially if it continues to play with the assembling of the Avengers, and it’ll be great if David Harbour is voicing this version of the character.

“That shot needs to be real at the future ahahahah. MAKE IT HAPPEN MARVEL!” said another fan, seemingly excited for the episode already.

The final season of What If…? is scheduled to debut on Disney+ on 22 December 2024.
