Marvel fans are absolutely furious with our new 'Deadpool'

"One of the worst ideas from Marvel in recent years"

Marvel has decided to come a bit full circle on things with their latest reveal, and fans unanimously… absolutely bloody hate it.

This one is going to take some explaining if you’re not an intermediate comics fan at worst, so buckle in.

Gwenpool. When you hear that name you might think “oh, that’s Gwen Stacy as Deadpool” - and you’d sort of be wrong, but you’d also kind of be right at the same time.

Gwenpool originated from a variant cover for the second issue of the Secret Wars event. There were a few of these for Secret Wars, such as a Gwen Stacy version of Doctor Strange and another Gwen variant as Wolverine.

However, when Gwenpool was finally made into a real character she was neither a Deadpool variant nor was she actually Gwen Stacy; she was a young woman from the “real” Earth (as in, our world) named Gwendolyn "Gwen" Poole, who was transported to Marvel’s 616-Earth.

Except, now, the old Gwendolyn Poole is out - and she’s being replaced by a revived Gwen Stacy, who now basically just looks like a proper Deadpool variant.

As expected, folks on Twitter hate everything about this.

“There are very few things that have been done with superhero comics that can arguably be described as works of literature, and the death of Gwen Stacy is one of them,” commented user @DanFriedman81.

“I don’t understand why hacks keep trying to f**k with it.”

“This had to be one of the worst ideas from Marvel in recent years, and that is including MJ and Paul as a couple with imaginary children,” replied user @rossi_tg.

Yeah, I really don’t have much to add. The editorial department at Marvel Comics has clearly lost the plot, quite literally, because they’ve been releasing back-to-back nonsense like this over the past few years.

The MCU should have caused a new golden age of Western comics, but it seems the editorial department at Marvel is full of a bunch of monkeys on typewriters, because what the actual hell am I looking at right now? Is everything ok over there folks? Blink twice if you need help.
