Marvel quietly renames The Fantastic Four

Marvel’s first family are being forced to change their name, and it’s all Doctor Doom’s fault.

In the latest Marvel Comics event One World Under Doom (which follows on from the events of Blood Hunt), Victor Von Doom has gained enough power that he can force the Fantastic Four to change their name - permanently.

Massive spoiler warning for the One World Under Doom event from this point onwards!

Following the events of the second issue of One World Under Doom, Doctor Doom has gained the powers of the Sorcerer Supreme after stripping Doctor Strange of his title.

He then immediately used said powers to depower Ben Grimm, which has once again turned The Thing into a regular, powerless human.

Following Ben Grimm’s defeat at the hands of Doctor Doom, the Fantastic Four have been forced to rebrand themselves to the Fantastic Three - but it won’t end there.

“What happens in this One World Under Doom event affects the Marvel Universe for the next 10 months, the rest of the year,” author Ryan North revealed to Comicbook.

“That obviously touches what goes on in Fantastic Four. There are a lot of one-shot stories and one-and-dones under this status quo of, ‘Doom is in charge. What are we going to do about it?’”

As revealed by North, Doom is attempting to permanently depower every member of Marvel’s first family - and will apparently succeed in taking down another member of the team in issue #31 of Fantastic Four.

As of now, we don’t actually know which member of the team Doom is going to defeat in the coming issue.

All we know is that, for reasons out of their control, the team will once again rebrand themselves and go by the name of the “Fantastic Two” following the events of the issue.

If they make it all the way to just one member having their powers left, it would seem a little redundant for just one person to go by the name of “The Fantastic One” right?
