Marvel has announced a new start for the Black Panther franchise as part of the MCU.

Taking to social media, Marvel introduced us to Cress Williams who will play ‘The Lion’ in the new Black Panther TV show, Eyes of Wakanda.

The show premieres next year, on 6 August, via Disney+ and will follow various characters from the Black Panther franchise.

Cress Williams is known for his role in Prison Break but has also dabbled in comic book adaptations starring as Black Lightning.

He has also provided voice work for several Superman animated productions from DC, so it’s great to see him make the leap over to Marvel with his distinctive voice.

Eyes of Wakanda is an animated TV show for Disney+ that will follow a group of Wakandan soldiers through history as they face several threats to the kingdom of Wakanda.

They will also be tracking down several vibranium artifacts, taking them around the world.

Most of the characters are, at this stage, unknown, while several actors have signed on as voice talent - it seems Disney will be drip-feeding details in the run-up to the show debuting.

The animation style for the project is stunning and, I hope, this is the first of many shows that takes a look at the surrounding cast of characters in the MCU.

It’s great to watch the heroes do their thing, but Marvel has so many characters to promote, bringing them to TV seems the logical step.

It also recreates the feeling of grabbing a new comic book from the shelf for new adventures - in more bite-sized chunks than the films we’re so used to.

Keep your eyes peeled for more news on Eyes of Wakanda as the rest of the cast is revealed in the coming months.
