Lord Of The Rings viewers terrified by Sauron's secret speech

A voice from the darkness

It's pretty widely accepted that The Lord of the Rings is one of the greatest trilogies ever to hit the silver screen, with each film standing up as some of the best individual efforts ever made as well.

If you were to ask me (I know you didn't), I think it stands alone at the very top of the tree as a series, with each film bringing something different to the overall equation. Whether it be the beautiful score, epic battles scenes or visuals that often seem to gel perfectly with the descriptions in the book, there's very little that would improve Peter Jackson's masterpiece.

A big part of the overall appeal of The Lord of the Rings is the little details that enrich the crucial moments, and there's one in particular during the Council of Elrond that you almost certainly missed.

As shared in a clip over on Reddit, the moment where Gandalf recites the One Ring's inscription in Black Speech, to quiet the assembled representatives, actually has a layered audio in which Sauron himself speaks.

If you listen carefully, you can hear Sauron himself recite his own distorted version, including calling Gandalf an "old man" and promising to spill his blood.

This revelation shocked longtime fans about as much as you'd expect. "Love when big baddie actual speaks here and there. Like when Frodo first wears the ring on accident: 'There is no life.....in the void.....only..........DEATH,' one read.

"It's a hell of a scene, I heard the second voice but I just through it was saying the ring verse in an evil, slowed down and deepened pitch voice not what apparently actually was said--- all these years later we keep finding new stuff," another added.

Whether Gandalf was able to hear Sauron in that moment, with both being powerful Maiar, is unclear, but it's a very cool little addition you should keep an ear out for next time you lock in for a marathon.
