Samwise Gamgee is the undisputed GOAT of the franchise, and his resistance to the one ring to rule them all proves it.

For years now fans have praised Sam’s character and resolve throughout the films, going from humble gardener to Frodo Baggins to a hero for the ages. I don’t care what you say, he’s the real main character of The Lord Of The Rings.

While Sam has some pretty impressive feats under his belt, like fending off Shelob, carrying Frodo up the mountain and making some banging mash potatoes, it's his lack of interest in the ring that’s most impressive.

As we’ve seen with Gollum, Frodo, Bilbo Baggins and even Gandalf, the ring tempts and corrupts anyone and everyone who interacts with it.

Now in the books Sam was tempted by the ring, but not for very long being the gigachad hobbit that he is.

In a Reddit thread talking about our heroes' resilience one user reminded fans that there’s a paragraph in the books where, at the Tower of Cirith Ungol. Sam becomes “enraptured with the thought of becoming ‘Samwise the Strong.’”

As the commenter goes on to say though, Sam quickly overcomes the temptation through “his dedication to Frodo and the quest, and just good, old-fashioned, hobbit sense.”

Of course there’s also Sam’s character to take into consideration, as before the Fellowship and the great quest he was more than happy to live a simple life in The Shire.

Compare that mindset to Frodo and Bilbo yearning for an adventure and higher purpose, and you can fully see why Sam may have not been as bothered by the ring’s power as his fellow hobbits were.

Forget a spin-off film about Gollum, when are we getting the Samwise Gamgee film?
