If you’re a fan of J.R.R Tolkien and his beloved The Lord of the Rings franchise then we’ve got some good news because a new movie is arriving this year.

There are probably not many novels as inspirational as The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit series from legendary writer J.R.R Tolkien. The likes of Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and The Chronicles of Narnia are just a few names that come to mind that owe a lot to the franchise.

The very first release in the novel series from J.R.R Tolkien arrived in 1954 with The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, shortly followed by The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Since that time, we’ve had movies, video games, board games, and so much more with its inspired goodness showing no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

The most recent video game to be announced is the upcoming charming indie title, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of the Shire. Furthermore, we’re also getting a new live-action movie which will be directed by the voice of Gollum, Andy Serkis, with the director of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy movies, Peter Jackson, being part of the producing team.

The movie in question is The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum and it will be a prequel tale for the character once named Sméagol before he was corrupted by The One Ring said to rule them all. However, before The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum arrives in 2026, we have a new animated movie to look forward to this year.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is being directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Akira, Ghost in the Shell) with Jeffrey Addis, Phoebe Gittens and Will Matthews writing. Furthermore, it will also see the return of some of the cast from the movie trilogy such as Miranda Otto who played Eowyn.

“The untold story behind Helm's Deep, hundreds of years before the fateful war, telling the life and bloodsoaked times of its founder, Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan,” reads the synopsis of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will be released in cinemas later this year on 13 December 2024 and no doubt will be followed by a digital and physical release.
