Following the news that the Life is Strange series is set to continue with a brand-new instalment, fans are eating well when it comes to the beloved episodic adventure game.

Created by Dontnod Entertainment, the franchise debuted in 2015 with Life is Strange before being followed by prequel Life is Strange: Before the Storm in 2017 and its sequel, Life is Strange in 2018.

Since then, Life is Strange: True Colours and Life is Strange: Double Exposure were released in 2021 and 2024 respectively.

The episodic adventure games have been met with critical acclaim over the years with fans praising their storytelling, graphics, and choice-based narrative.

The franchise has become so beloved that in 2016, it was announced that Legendary Digital Studios and Square Enix would be teaming up to adapt Life is Strange into a live-action television show.

With limited updates, it was only in September 2025 that it was revealed that Amazon MGM Studios had acquired the rights to produce the series for Prime Video with Charlie Covell (The End of the F***ing World, Kaos) serving as both showrunner and executive producer.

With the project now greenlit, we can expect major developments to be announced over the next few months and although there have not been any official casting news yet, one rumour has already begun circulating.

According to The InSneider (and spotted by DomTheBomb), our Max Caulfield has been selected.

As the main character in Life is Strange, Max was the very first protagonist that lovers of the franchise met and so you cannot deny that there is extreme pressure to nail this casting.

Well, according to the report, Canadian singer and actress Maisy Stella is in talks to star as the lead in the live-action Life is Strange television show.

Who is Maisy Stella?

Stella, who is best known for playing country music singer Daphne Conrad on the musical television show Nashville, also went on to win a Critics’ Choice Movie Award and an Independent Spirit Award alongside a nomination for the Gotham Award thanks to her work in 2024 coming-of-age comedy My Old Ass.

At the time of writing, Life is Strange is not listed in her official upcoming projects but never say never.

Following the rumour, fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the potential casting.

“I'd rather see Emma Myers play Max Caulfield,” one user shared.

Another thinks that they should stick to Max Caulfield’s voice actor.

“I would get Hannah Telle in there for Max because it’ll match her voice to the actual game but I see what they’re trying to go with,” they shared.

With reactions seeming mixed, it seems as though Stella will have a lot to live up to but for now, it is worth taking this rumour with a pinch of salt.

Despite not having seen any of Stella’s previous work, I am a Life is Strange fan and as always, I am happy to trust the casting directors to bring the beloved characters to life.

It may not always work, and we have plenty of examples of that (Tom Holland as Nathan Drake cough cough) but it is always worth giving actors a chance.

For now, however, we will have to wait to see if this rumour is correct when the official cast list for Life is Strange is revealed.
