Harry Potter HBO official reveal has left fans incredibly divided

It's a big change for fans

The casting announcements for the HBO Harry Potter adaptation are heating up as more and more stars are cast for the show.

Yesterday saw new names attached to the reboot adaptation, and while every actor brought on is stellar in their field, some fans are torn on seeing these new faces step into iconic roles.

Casting for the HBO Harry Potter show is gathering steam

Over on Reddit, where news quickly spread of more professors and Hogwarts staff being cast, fans are debating the news and have reservations.

It should be noted that the majority of fans aren’t unhappy that actors won’t do a very good job, it’s more that icons of the franchise can’t be matched.

“Gonna be hard to replace the Hagrid and McGonnagal we grew up with, two of the most perfect castings,” said one fan after reading the casting news.

Another fan, Pure-Resolve echoed the sentiment, saying, “I know this is going to sound silly, but it makes me a little sad that there's going to be a generation of people that don't picture Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid and even more so Maggie smith as professor McGonagall.”

Others are simply happy to see great actors suited to their roles.

PeaWaste7407 said, “Paul Whitehouse as Filch is just perfect. Simplicity in its finest.”

I have to agree. While I’m not the biggest Harry Potter fan, I am a huge fan of Whitehouse, having grown up with his comedy sketch show appearances.

He’s going to bring a great level of comedy and character to that role.

This fan is eager to see the new Hagrid, saying, “Nick Frost as Hagrid? Say less, I'm in.”

It’s always tough to see your favourite actors recast in new projects, but I’m sure these performers will deliver great versions of each character for a new generation of fans.

Hopefully, the casting of Harry himself, along with his classmates, is equally celebrated.
