The Harry Potter TV series will air its first season by the end of the year, but fans are getting a sneak-peek at the new project this month.

The new series will follow the plot of one book per season, but HBO has confirmed that there won’t be one season per year as the size of the series won’t allow for it.

With the first season kicking off in December, fans are looking forward to seeing how it differs from the blockbuster film franchise, and judging from the first official trailer it’ll be delving into parts of the books that even the movies refused to tackle.

A Second Tease Just One Week After The First

Like an early Christmas present though, fans will be getting a sneak-peek at the new series and how it's being put together thanks to a new documentary about the production.

A trailer for the documentary was released this afternoon, and it'll be available for streaming on HBO in just a few days, 5 April to be exact.

It comes just a week after the first official trailer was released.

Featuring interviews with the cast as well as behind-the-scenes images and videos, it’ll provide fans with an in-depth look at the sets, costumes and much more.

Through the trailer alone we’ve already caught glimpses of some of the iconic Harry Potter locations that weren’t fully-visible in the official trailer, like Diagon Alley for instance.

In truth it's a little strange to see this documentary exist so soon. Usually you'd see a documentary for a film or TV series take place after the project has seen the light of day, whereas this documentary will air months before the show is even out.

Perhaps this is just a clever bit of marketing, as there was initially a lot of backlash to some of the new faces for existing characters. This documentary gives viewers the chance to hear from these actors and how they've prepared for the role, hopefully proving that they're in good hands.

There's also the very real possibility that it leads to some new casting announcements. For instance, the actor playing Voldemort in the new series hasn't been named yet so perhaps that announcement will come as part of this sneak peek, to get fans hyped for December.

The Harry Potter series documentary drops on HBO on 5 April, and will be our best look at the new series by far.
