The Harry Potter reboot may have found its Dumbledore according to the latest industry gossip.
Casting can make or break a series; with much riding on this reboot for HBO, it would do well to think carefully about its choices.
Harry Potter is, for better or worse, an immovable part of pop culture. Consequently, who plays what role is going to cause a strong reaction in the fandom.
We’ve already witnessed division among fans over Cillian Murphy’s rumoured role in the TV series, and anticipate more discourse will break out before the official cast is announced.

The latest rumour that has fans whipped up into a frenzy is that of Dumbledore.
Whoever next plays the character will be following in the footsteps of Richard Harris, Michael Gambon, and Jude Law, each of whom are tough acts to follow for differing reasons.
Purportedly though, HBO may have found their man.
As shared on X account Culture Grave, and originally revealed by Deadline, John Lithgow is in “final talks” to play the legendary wizard.
Having starred in hit shows such as Dexter, 3rd Rock from the Sun, and in beloved films like Shrek, Lithgow’s acting prowess is renowned.
Needless to say, fans are freaking out about the possibility of him overseeing the students of Hogwarts.
“Watch his season on Dexter. And 3rd Rock from the Sun... and Harry and the Hendersons. So versatile,” commented WishieWashie12 on r/harrypotter. “He's awesome in everything he touches. Even in bad movies, he brings his best.”
Even those who haven’t got much to say about whether this is a wise choice or not, can’t believe Lithgow is in the running.
“No fuxking way this is real,” exclaimed Pineappleplusone.
“The Trinity Killer at the Triwizard Tournament seems like a great combination,” joked another. If you know, you know.
HBO nor Lithgow have commented on this rumour yet, and therefore we approach it with caution.
Still, the very idea of Lithgow playing Dumbledore has fans even more curious about the reboot.
