One of Harry Potter’s biggest stars has revealed his conditions for returning to the franchise in HBO’s upcoming TV adaptation, and I think it’s fair to say that said conditions probably aren’t feasible.
Back in 2023, Rupert Grint (best known for playing Ron Weasley in the original Harry Potter films) revealed in an interview with ITV's This Morning (quotes per Joshua Nair on LadBible) what his conditions are for returning to the franchise.
"I think if the timing was right and everyone was coming back,” Grint told This Morning’s hosts, “It was a character that was important to me, we kind of became the same person… I'm protective of him as well. It was my whole childhood."

Even though the interview is close to being a couple of years old right now, Grint’s response has circled back into the limelight (in no doubt due to the buzz surrounding HBO’s adaptation) and prompted fans on the r/harrypotter subreddit to offer their thoughts.
“IMHO it would be bad for everyone, if the cast returns. It would destroy their legacy,” commented user sauerlaender.
“The only thing I would suggest is a single cameo. Nothing more.”
“Would work best as cameos as secondary to background roles,” replied user Ealy-24.

“The pressure they would bring reprising their roles would be a detriment to the show and not let it find its own way.”
Now if you ask me, I don’t think there’s a chance this is going to actually happen.
Rupert Grint specifically stated that he’d only return if “everyone was coming back” - and assumedly he’s referring to Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson when he says that.
I think at this point that both Radcliffe and Watson have made it very clear that they don’t intend to take part in HBO’s adaptation in any way, so that counts Grint out as well.

Still, I think the series will likely feature a cameo or two - just don’t expect any of the main three stars to be in the mix.
