Game Of Thrones' Joffrey voted most hated TV character of all time

Game Of Thrones' Joffrey voted most hated TV character of all time

No one is really surprised by this, right?

The original Game of Thrones series finished in 2019, yet fans and critics alike still remember which of the show’s characters angered them the most. Hate for one character is so intense that he’s been named the most-hated TV character of all time; we’re, of course, referring to Joffrey Baratheon.

Even those who didn’t watch the series will still be aware that Joffrey was a cruel king (to be honest, he was cruel before that), having ordered the execution of Ned Stark while he forced Sansa to watch. That kind of behaviour is never going to win over the hearts of the audience, nor the friends they continuously bore with details about the show.

When two greats collide: watch the Game of Thrones sword in action in Elden Ring!

But the most hated character of all time is a big title. Yet, Joffrey wears the crown well. He had stiff competition from the likes of Ramsey Bolton (also from GoT), and, interestingly, Skylar White from Breaking Bad. Ranker’s top 12 hated TV characters is an eclectic list. Some might even call it “weird”.

Despite heated debates on Twitter over the accuracy of said list, one user, someone who’s never watched GoT, said that they have a “hard time” believing anyone is “worse than Livia Soprano”, who ranked fourth. Well, we can assure you, Joffrey is a “smug little sh*t” who’s completely and utterly deserving of the top spot for this one.

Thank goodness, then, that this horrible character was killed by a sleight of hand and some poisoned wine. Some might think that death too quick, but sometimes getting the job done without a hitch is more important than a grand display. And it means we’re free to enjoy new spin-offs without ever having to see that grimacing face again – it’s a win-win.

We’re curious though, who would you say is the most hated character in all of TV history? Answers on a postcard, please, as we will not be reading through all your venomous replies – we’re too excited about Game of Thrones: The Winds of Winter getting an update to truly be invested in your response. Sorry… not sorry.
